Settlement Launch - A Retrospective and Beyond
The Settlement Launch is playable prototype of The Beacon that will be open to the public. Members of the community will be able to try out some early gameplay and get a sneak peek of the game's Homestead Mode and Single-player PvE Mode.
Players will be able to try out gameplay, participate in daily activities to acquire NFTs (some of which are available only during this period 👀) and prizes, and help support the continued development of the game.
The event will run for 3 weeks, and will end with the minting of our Generation-0 Pet Eggs. Afterwards, the PvE Mode will be closed for further development but players will continue to have access to the Homestead Mode.
During the Settlement Launch, Characters and Pets will be available for minting
The Settlement Launch will allow everyone to purchase a character from day one and it will end with the Generation-0 Pet Eggs mint event.
The Beacon is free to play, but in order to obtain NFTs from the game, players must purchase a character.
Characters Characters are the core asset of the game, by obtaining one you will be able to participate in all game features and obtain NFT loot, some of which is limited and only available during this period, never to be obtained again, they can also obtain raffle tickets to earn WL spots.
Characters are NFTs created with a name and a base look composed of a set of cosmetic items in a particular order that grant it a unique look. They are also generated with a PFP.
Characters created during The Settlement launch are named “Founding characters”.
These characters will have traits that will not be obtainable after this particular period of the game. They also come with a lootbox that will grant you random house decor items.
No role or WL spot is required to mint a character and they are not capped. Founder characters are mostly limited by time.
Those who don’t purchase a character can still play the game, but they will hold a character that is not an NFT, not customizable, and that can only obtain common items that are not NFTs.
Pets Pets on the other hand are a bit more scarce. Pets are companions that follow the player around and benefit the holder in several ways. They can only be minted by those who hold a WL spot. Only 1 pet can be minted per Wallet initially, and they have a capped supply of 4096.
Pets are generated with unique and random traits that have effect on gameplay, they give the a yield boost to the character, and grant early access to the game once the full launch comes.
Pets can also be bred and pass down their traits. Some of these traits are scarce and unique, only obtainable through the initial generation, subsequent generations of pets won’t carry most of the benefits gen-0 pets carry. (yield, early access, etc)
For the next 3 weeks, starting every Friday at 08:00 EST and ending on the subsequent Wednesday at 23:59 EST, a Settlement Week will go live. During a Settlement Week, players will be able to participate in daily events and earn daily rewards, as well as compete against each other for items, whitelist spots and raffle tickets.
After each Settlement Week is a Settlement Week Raffle. During a raffle, players who hold raffle tickets will be eligible to win NFTs and whitelist spots.
Players will be able to: 1) try out some early test gameplay, 2) acquire once-in-a-lifetime NFTs, and 3) support continued development of The Beacon.
DUNGEON EXPEDITION
Players will be able to try out our prototype PvE combat system. Each day, players may go on a Dungeon Expedition, during which they must clear a small dungeon of enemies in a limited amount of time.
Upon clearing the dungeon, players may choose one of three exits to take. Each exit contains a chest with loot rewards. Choose carefully though because the exits will have different reward rates each day.
TAVERN QUIZ
Players may win rewards by paying a visit to Igor, the tavern drunk. Each day, Igor will ask a question that tests players’ knowledge of the world of The Beacon. Players should pay attention to clues from other NPCs, as they may have different tales and experiences to share every day.
Players who correctly answer Igor’s question will earn loot rewards. The first player to answer correctly each day will receive a whitelist spot if they have not already been whitelisted.
COMMUNITY CONTESTS
Compete for rewards against other players by creating the most eye-popping house and character. Every Settlement Week, a player’s house and character will vie for views against those of other players’. Decorate, design, and share your handiwork to boost your odds of winning leaderboard prizes, such as rare NFTs and whitelist spots.
In addition to the various NFTs and items that players can acquire, each Settlement Week will also feature a unique set of exclusive legendary items that will never be obtainable in-game again. Players can acquire these NFTs via:
PURCHASING A FOUNDING CHARACTER
The purchase of a Founding Character will come with a starter pack of in-game items to start your character-decorating and house-decorating journey. The items in the pack will be random, with the higher rarity items available for players to withdraw as NFTs. Lucky players may even receive the current week’s exclusive legendary NFTs.
RECEIVING LOOT REWARDS
Players who hold a Founding Character and complete Dungeon Expeditions or Tavern Quizzes will receive loot rewards. Those without a Founding Character will only receive non-NFT in-game items. Rewards are random. Lucky players may receive the current week’s exclusive legendary NFTs.
PLACING HIGH ON THE LEADERBOARD
Players who rank highly on the Community Contest leaderboard will be rewarded with NFT packs. The higher a player places on the leaderboard, the higher the rarity of the items that will be rewarded from the NFT pack.
WINNING SETTLEMENT WEEK RAFFLES
Players who hold raffle tickets will be automatically entered into the current Settlement Week Raffle for a chance to win high rarity NFTs and whitelist spots.

PURCHASING A FOUNDING CHARACTER
Price: USD$ 40 (denominated in ETH)
Supply: No hard limit; only available for a limited time
Founding Characters are NFTs of the fabled individuals who helped found the faraway settlements within The Beacon’s game world. During the Settlement Launch, owning a Founding Character will allow a player to acquire NFTs when opening chests, receive more raffle tickets towards the Settlement Week Raffles, be able to customize their character with cosmetics, and more!
Players may purchase more than one Founding Character. Each Founding Character you hold will allow you to complete the day’s Dungeon Expedition and Tavern Quiz once. For example, if you hold three Founding Characters, you will be able to complete the Dungeon Expedition and Tavern Quiz three times each day, and receive loot rewards each time. After the last Settlement Week ends at 12:00 GMT on December 15, 2022, no more Founding Characters will be sold again.
MINTING A GENERATION-0 PET EGG
Price: USD$ 80 - 110 (denominated in ETH)
Supply: 4096
Pets are magical creatures from the world of The Beacon that are bound to a human partner. They act as companions that follow the player around the game, are able to inhabit the player’s house, and grant the player certain perks based on the traits that they are hatched with. Pets can be bred and their offsprings will inherit a combination of the parents’ traits.
Generation-0 Pets will have the added perk of providing increased yields on drops, as well as giving its owner early access to game events and releases.
The price of a pet egg will range from USD$80 to USD$110. Those who mint during the exclusive Whitelist Minting period will be able to purchase at USD$80. After this, during the Community Minting period, all pet eggs will be minted at USD$95. Then, they will be USD$110 during the Last Chance Minting period.
The USD purchase price of each Founding Character will be credited to the cost of minting Generation-0 Pet Eggs.
Players who do not purchase anything will still be allowed to play during the Settlement Launch. However, those who purchase a Founding Character will be able to receive much better loot drops, a wider array of NFTs, more raffle tickets, and more opportunities for getting a whitelist spot.
Players who participate in the Settlement Launch can obtain:
NON-NFT GAME ITEMS
Any player may be able to receive game items that are not NFTs. These items take the form of character cosmetics and house decor.
GAME ITEM NFTS
Players with Founding Characters will be able to receive game items that are NFTs**. These items take the form of character cosmetics and house decor.
**Players without a Founding Character will only be able to receive NFT game items in these exceptional cases: collaboration NFTs, raffle prizes, Community Contest prizes
FOUNDING CHARACTER NFT
Players can obtain Founding Character NFTs through purchase.
RAFFLE TICKETS
All players can obtain raffle tickets by referring paid players or by connecting their social accounts (e.g. Twitter, Discord). Those who purchase a Founding Character will also receive raffle tickets for their character purchase, by completing Dungeon Expeditions, and by solving Tavern Quizzes.
Raffle tickets allow players to win NFTs and whitelist spots during each Settlement Week Raffle.
WHITELIST SPOTS
Whitelist spots guarantee players the ability to mint a Generation-0 Pet egg during an exclusive time window on the day of the Pets Mint.
The Pets Mint will occur after the Settlement Launch ends. Mint date will be start December 16, 2022 at 00:00 GMT.
Pets are magical creatures from the world of The Beacon that are bound to a human partner. Pets can be bred and their offsprings will inherit a combination of the parents’ traits.
The lifecycle of a pet begins as an egg. Eggs take time to hatch, so please be patient.
Once a pet hatches, each of its body parts will take on a trait. Some traits may be derived from one of the pet’s parents while others may arise by random chance.
Some traits are Ancestral Traits and can only be acquired via inheritance from a parent — only Generation-0 Pets can acquire Ancestral Traits by chance. Each Generation-0 Pet will be guaranteed to have at least one such Ancestral Trait.
Each one of a pet’s traits will be randomly assigned to be dominant or recessive at hatch time. Dominant traits will have a higher likelihood of being passed down to an offspring than recessive ones.
On occasion, mutations can occur. In those cases, neither of the parents’ traits are passed down and the offspring will gain a random trait for that particular body part.
All pets will only be allowed to breed a limited number of times — the limit has not been determined as of yet. In the future, as support is rolled out, pet-owning players will be able to coordinate with each other in order to breed their pets. We envision a marketplace for pet breeding so that players will not need to own both parents in order to breed new pets.
Every breeding event will produce 2 eggs, one for each parent.
There will only ever be 4096 Generation-0 Pets.
Generation-0 Pets will be the pets that possess Ancestral Traits, and are the ones that will seed all other pets in the game via breeding. They will possess at least 1 Ancestral Trait — traits that can only be acquired via inheritance and not through chance mutations.
Generation-0 Pets will have at least one Ancestral Trait, provide increased yields on drops, as well as give its owner preferential access to future game events and releases. Subsequent generations of pets will not have the boosted yield nor early access perks that Generation-0 Pets have. For non-in-game perks provided by Generation-0 Pets, where it makes sense, the team will give preferential treatment and access to those with lower NFT IDs.
